GLOBAL FUND ROUND 6

About GFR6

The Global Fund is dedicated to attracting and disbursing additional resources to prevent and treat HIV and AIDStuberculosis and malaria. The Global Fund works in close collaboration with other bilateral and multilateral organizations to supplement existing efforts dealing with the three diseases.

Since its creation in 2002, the Global Fund has become the main source of finance for programs to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, with approved funding of US$ 15.6 billion for more than 572 programs in 140 countries. It provides a quarter of all international financing for AIDS globally, two-thirds for tuberculosis and three quarters for malaria.

Global Fund financing is enabling countries to strengthen health systems by, for example, making improvements to infrastructure and providing training to those who deliver services. The Global Fund remains committed to working in partnership to scale up the fight against the diseases and to realize its vision – a world free of the burden of AIDS, TB and malaria.

The Program focuses on HIV prevention through scaling up of voluntary counseling and treating (VCT) and ensuring blood safety and treatment, care and support for the people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA). It also aims to strengthen health system to establish a supportive environment in the delivery of HIV services. The program targets the clientele of the public health facilities, which includes the people most at risk and vulnerable for HIV infection. The target populations were selected based on the increasing demand for HIV and STI related services as a result of intensified outreach, increased awareness and availability of treatment care and support services for people living with HIV and AIDS (PLWHA).
